The easiest way to get internet in Pattaya is a travel eSIM for Thailand: install the profile at home on Wi-Fi as a second line, then switch it on after landing at Suvarnabhumi (BKK) or U-Tapao (UTP). Around Pattaya itself — Beach Road, Naklua, Pratumnak and Jomtien — mobile coverage is usually solid. It gets weaker in mall basements, in the evening crowds on Walking Street and in the far coves of Koh Larn island.

Mobile data in Pattaya: where it’s strong and where it dips

Mobile coverage in Pattaya is usually solid across the whole resort: it’s a big, densely built city on the Gulf of Thailand, and maps, ride-hailing, food delivery and video calls home run without noticeable pauses. A travel eSIM connects to a Thai carrier’s network while roaming. Thailand’s largest mobile carriers are AIS and True Corporation, which merged with dtac in 2023; your phone picks an available network on its own.

Is there a signal on the ride from Suvarnabhumi to Pattaya?

Mobile data on the ride from Suvarnabhumi to Pattaya usually holds the whole way, since the route follows the motorway through the built-up eastern seaboard. According to the airport, buses to Pattaya leave from Level 1 of the main terminal at Gate 8, and taxis wait on the same level between Gates 4 and 7. Roong Reuang Coach buses run to the Pattaya and Jomtien bus stations, and the trip takes about two hours.

You’ll lean on data during this ride more than you’d expect: showing the driver your condo or hotel address, tracking the route, telling your landlord when you’ll arrive and booking a car from the bus station to your door. Suvarnabhumi does have free Wi-Fi, but per the airport’s website you sign in with an email address and sessions are time-limited, so install the eSIM profile at home.

  1. At home, check that your phone is compatible in the bot @moresim_bot, buy a Thailand plan and install the profile on your home Wi-Fi.
  2. Download an offline map of Pattaya and Jomtien and save your address written in Thai.
  3. After landing, turn off airplane mode and set the Thai line as your cellular data line.
  4. Turn on data roaming for the travel eSIM line: most travel eSIMs connect to a local carrier’s network as roaming SIMs, so without it you won’t get data. If your plan’s instructions say otherwise, follow them.
  5. Turn off cellular data on your home SIM so your data doesn’t go through your home carrier. Keep the line itself on if you’re expecting texts from your bank.
  6. If nothing shows up after a few minutes, toggle airplane mode off and on again.

What’s internet like at U-Tapao Airport?

With an eSIM installed in advance, mobile data at U-Tapao Airport (UTP) usually works right after landing, so you can sort out a taxi with a map already open. The airport’s full name is U-Tapao Rayong-Pattaya International Airport. It sits in Ban Chang district, Rayong province, south of Pattaya, and the ride into town by taxi or minibus usually takes under an hour.

As of October 2026, U-Tapao’s website lists free Wi-Fi and currency exchange among its services but doesn’t mention any mobile carrier counters. So don’t plan on buying a SIM here: land with your eSIM already installed, and if you need a Thai SIM, get one in town.

Flights into U-Tapao change from season to season, and some of them are charters. If your package just says “Pattaya,” check the airport code on your ticket: UTP is U-Tapao, while BKK is Suvarnabhumi in Bangkok, a longer ride away. That decides how long you’ll be on the road and when you’ll need data to message your transfer or your landlord.

Is there coverage on Koh Larn and on the ferry?

On Koh Larn you’ll usually have mobile data in Na Ban village by the main pier and on the main beaches, while it’s weaker on the hill roads and in remote coves. The island lies roughly 7.5 km west of Pattaya. The ferry from Bali Hai Pier, at the south end of Walking Street, takes about half an hour, and speedboats are faster. The shore is never far away, so the signal usually holds on the crossing, though it can dip mid-way.

What internet do you need for a winter stay in a Jomtien condo?

Winter stays in a Jomtien or Pratumnak condo usually run on two channels: the apartment’s Wi-Fi for work and streaming, and mobile data for everything outside. Jomtien is a residential area south of Pattaya with a long beach, Pratumnak is the hill in between, and Naklua with Wong Amat is the quieter north end. All of them are full of condos rented out by the month.

A Thai tourist SIM won’t cover a winter longer than two months: under rules in force since August 2025, it works for 60 days at most, and topping up doesn’t extend it. For several months, you can register a regular prepaid Thai SIM with your passport at a carrier store, or keep a travel eSIM and top it up. With a MoreSim eSIM, pick a Thailand plan with a long enough validity on the country page and add data without a new eSIM with “Top up data” on the eSIM card in your account or in the bot’s app, if top-ups are available for that plan. Staying online for months and working from a laptop are covered in our winter 2026–2027 guide.

Where to buy a SIM card in Pattaya, and what do you need?

SIM cards in Pattaya are sold at AIS stores and at True stores, which sell SIMs under the TrueMove H and dtac brands; according to True, tourist SIMs are also sold at airports and at 7-Eleven. As of October 2026 the registration rules are strict. Since August 18, 2025, the NBTC regulator has required a live face check on camera when a SIM is registered. Since May 16, 2026, foreigners have had to register SIMs in person at a store or authorized dealer, with a passport, and can hold no more than three SIMs per carrier.

How much a SIM card costs in Pattaya depends on the package: carriers post tourist SIM rates on their websites and in stores, and those rates change. Before you buy, compare validity, data, whether you need a Thai number and how long registration will take. If all you need is data, a travel eSIM is simpler: no store visit, and the profile installs at home. Our guide to travel eSIMs vs local SIMs in Asia shows how to tally the full cost, registration time included.

MoreSim plans are mobile data only, with no phone number. You can call through messaging apps where they aren’t restricted, and texts from your bank keep arriving on your home SIM as long as roaming is available on it — our guide to bank texts abroad covers what to check before you fly. Our data guide helps you estimate how many gigabytes the trip will take. If something won’t connect, MoreSim support answers via /support in the bot @moresim_bot, a ticket in your account or email.

FAQ

How do I get mobile data in Pattaya right after landing?

Install a travel eSIM for Thailand at home on Wi-Fi, then after landing at Suvarnabhumi or U-Tapao turn off airplane mode and set the Thai line as your cellular data line. If nothing shows up after a few minutes, toggle airplane mode off and on.

Is there internet at U-Tapao Airport?

With an eSIM installed in advance, mobile data at U-Tapao Airport (UTP) usually kicks in right after landing. As of October 2026, the airport’s website lists free Wi-Fi among its services but no mobile carrier counters, so don’t count on buying a SIM there. The ride from U-Tapao to Pattaya by taxi or minibus usually takes under an hour.

Where can I buy a SIM card in Pattaya?

Thai SIM cards in Pattaya are sold at AIS stores and at True stores, which sell SIMs under the TrueMove H and dtac brands. According to True, tourist SIMs are also sold at airports and at 7-Eleven. Since May 2026, foreigners have to register a SIM in person, with a passport and a face check.

How much does a SIM card cost in Pattaya?

The price of a Thai SIM depends on the package: carriers post current tourist SIM rates on their websites and in stores, and they change. Compare more than the price — validity, data, whether you need a Thai number, and how long the in-store passport registration takes. If all you need is data, a travel eSIM installs at home and skips the store entirely.

What do I need to buy a SIM card in Pattaya in 2026?

As of October 2026, you need your passport and an in-person visit to a carrier store or an authorized dealer, where registration includes a live face check on camera. A foreigner can register no more than three SIMs per carrier. A tourist SIM lasts 60 days at most; for a longer stay, people get a regular prepaid SIM instead.

Is there a signal on Koh Larn?

On Koh Larn you’ll usually have mobile data in Na Ban village by the main pier and on the main beaches, while the hill roads and remote coves are weaker. The island sits roughly 7.5 km (under 5 miles) off Pattaya, so the signal usually holds on the ferry from Bali Hai Pier. Save an offline map of the island and the time of the last ferry back before you go.

What internet setup works for a winter stay in a Jomtien condo?

Long-stayers in Jomtien usually pair the condo’s Wi-Fi for work with mobile data for everything outside the apartment. A Thai tourist SIM lasts 60 days at most, so for several months people get a regular prepaid SIM with a passport or keep a travel eSIM and top it up. With a MoreSim eSIM, pick a Thailand plan with a long enough validity on the country page and add data with “Top up data” on the eSIM card in your account or in the bot’s app, if top-ups are available for that plan.
